TVCC Elections last night

I thought I’d share some of the highlights of the TVCC meeting last night for those of you who weren’t able to attend.  Please note these are not the official Minutes, only my scratchy notes.

== John Teixeira (Fire Chief) reminded us that the deadline for the Toy Drive is Dec 19th. (That is the day they will be packing them up for delivery, so I suggest you put Dec 18th in your mind)

They give gifts to age 1 through 16 and have a need for 900 gifts.  So far, they have a deficit of  400-500.  The names of the family are qualified through the schools (needy kids using the free lunch program), then added to those at the food bank, and on to the Fire Dept’s list.  All these children are local (Tonopah, Harquahala, Palo Verde, and Arlington).  They usually have a shortage of pre-teen girls (my suggestions, jewelry making, nail polish kits, etc), and they always have a need for stuffed animals (even gently used ones), Hot Wheels are still popular too.  (The Town Hall meeting on the 24th will be accepting toys for the Fire Dept, and we will also accept food for the local food bank.) John said you may drop off your toys or food at the fire station 24/7…. However, he jokingly said the firemen may not appreciate a 2am drop-off.

==  The status of the 501-c-3 reinstatement:  the final paperwork needed is from the Treasurer (Roz McWilliams) who has been ill.  The IRS requires the last 3 years of financial records and that is taking extra time.  Rick expects to have it in the mail to the IRS within the next 2 weeks.

==  The resignation letter was read from Lynne Flynn so that it could be entered into the minutes.  (There have been some harsh {false}accusations posted on Facebook regarding the Trunk-or-Treat night and she was deeply hurt)

==  Nov 20th there will be a SUPER PIE Auction  (It is Soup Or Pie Auction) which is a fundraiser for the FFA.  It will be from 6 to 8 at the High School cafeteria.

==  Nov 26th  there will be a FREE Thanksgiving dinner at the Ruth Fisher school cafeteria from 5 to 7.  This is the day before Thanksgiving, and they plan on serving 500 people.   Everyone is invited.  Even tho it is free, there are food costs involved, so if you are interested in donating any money towards this event, there is still $400 needed to cover some of the food costs. ( I guess you contact the school)

==Elections were held, and the results are:

            District #1       Jane Magee

            District #3       Mary Meyer

            District #5       Goebel Barry (incumbent)

            District #7       Rick Moreau (incumbent)

There individuals will take office in January ’15. and were welcomed to the Board with applause.  CONGRATULATIONS !!
==  Recognition was given to John Diaz for his community service via the Rodeo, and the other events he sponsors at his facility.  He also gave the TVCC a $1000 donation from the proceeds from the Rodeo held Nov 1st.

I announced our Town Hall meeting to be held on the 24th, and invited everyone to attend and learn a little about our STOPP group.  There were about 60 people in attendance at the time, and others had come to vote, but did not stay for the meeting.

A great turn out for the election, and great community involvement and interest.  That’s what we need !. We may not always agree, but (hopefully) we have the best interest for our community at heart, and we can work together.
